iPage – Shared Web Hosting Review

 Freebies or Quality

I am not sure what people expect from an EIG brand. It is no more a secret that they are ruining every hosting company that they touch. I have no idea why, but just in case that you need to know who they are I have compiled a list of all EIG owned brands and companies here.

iPage was once upon a time quite decent hosting brand. Loved and respected by many webmasters. Now? Now they are a joke, run and operated by incompetent people, who couldn’t care less about their customers.

I had a laugh recently. You see, usually you have satisfied and unsatisfied customers on every hosting, it’s just the way things are. But here, here there are no satisfied customers anywhere I looked or asked.

Features

Full list of iPage FeaturesWell, I can’t spit on everything, can I? The real question is: is it worth it? In my opinion, it isn’t, but for the sake of this review I’m going to say that their list of features is decent.

As you can see on the screenshot they are offering a free website builder, and that is… Useful…

MySQL databases, disk space, bandwidth, and number of hosted domains is unlimited. Everything on this list of features is a standard issue, but one thing that caught my eye is the fact that you can have unlimited number of e-mail addresses at your domain, and a toll free number (US only). Which is very nice if your plans include email marketing, having your friends call you free of charge, or perhaps offering free email accounts to your customers.

It is also interesting to know that they have: money back anytime policy. You can check it out here. In theory it is supposed to be something like: You have 30 days for a full refund, but you can also request partial refund later.

I have no idea if they hold on to their end of this bargain, I requested my refund two weeks after purchase.

Ease of use

Nothing complicated here either. They utilize cPanel as their main user interface for shared hosting accounts. My only remark about usability is sluggishness of the cPanel. It is much slower than a cPanel of HostGator.

Specifications – Specs

I would like to point out, that before I wrote this review, I contacted iPage support and asked them for their specks and allotted resources for every shared hosting account. I have received no reply, and I don’t think that I ever will.
The allowed number of of entry processes, concurrent processes, RAM and CPU is nowhere to be found. It seems as though they are hiding it, but I can’t say for certain.

As such the only thing I can say about their servers is that they are slow, sluggish and unresponsive. The average server response time that I had is the catastrophic 1.9 seconds.

Help and Support

If I had to describe this charade with only one word, it would be: Disaster! If I had more words, it would be something like: a complete and utter Disaster!

The only reason I gave them such a high and undeserved rating is because of the fact that they actually pick up the phone when it rings, and sometimes they even respond to emails and live chat.

Unbelievable, I know.

Nothing they say or do will help you, but they are quite good at getting things even worse.

iPage Summary

Stay away from them.

You know, it’s my job to be unbiased and objective, and to provide you with an honest and sincere review that will potentially help you to decide which is the right company for hosting your website.

So here is my unbiased  and objective advice for you: Stay away!

Unlessssssss…. Those e-mails and toll free phone number ring a bell in your crazy head. *wink wink*

Out of all EIG owned brands and companies this one suffered the most, and far too long. Just as any other wounded beast that is beyond saving, this one should also be put to sleep.
